My formula for speaking success includes being real/vulnerable, incorporating humor, providing relatable context, sharing my vision, and generating excitement for that vision. 

 

It’s hard to be uplifting and humorous when you’re dealing with the context of devastation. As a speaker in sustainability, I have found the approach of acknowledging the direness of the situation head-on, but focusing most of the content and attention on the solutions and excitement around those solutions, to help keep attendees in a positive headspace.
